Medical emergencies in the dental office are fortunately a rare occurrence, but they can be very dangerous. Because they are rare, some practitioners are not ready to act appropriately when they occur. This evening will offer a case-based approach to common medical emergencies with what happened, why it happened and what could have or should have been done to prevent it.
♦ How to remain calm and appropriate when things go wrong
♦ Understand and prevent some medical emergencies from occurring
♦ Know how to prepare your office and staff to deal with medical emergencies when they occur
Anders Nattestad, DDS, MS Professor and Director, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry at the University of the Pacific since 2007 – held a similar position for 3 previous years at a dental school at UNLV. Anders is deeply committed to getting medicine back into dentistry.
His responsibilities at UOP also include medical emergency lecturing and being a leader of the crash cart medical emergency team for the school. Anders attended dental school and university in Copenhagen, Denmark – graduated dental school 1986, PhD 1989, and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery 1997. He has published 50+ peer reviewed articles, spoken at 100+ international meetings all over the world.
