PRESENTATION
It’s time to question what we have been traditionally taught in dental school about jaw misalignment, breathing, and airway.  Did you know that 34% of children under the age of 12 have signs and symptoms of TMD?  Why?  We will discuss the correlation between OSA in children and the incidence of TMD in these same patients as well as what the American Academy of Otolarynology has to say about our role as dentists in identifying patients in need of early intervention.  Let’s think outside the box and look at ways to use the computer technology many of us currently have in our practices.  You will be inspired by before and after video interviews with real patients treated for their TMD and OSA revealing dramatic changes in their appearance and well-being.

Learning Outcomes

The most common signs and symptoms of oxygen deprivation in children
The 8 most common signs and 16 typical symptoms of TMJ Dysfunction
The correlation between OSA in children and the incidence of TMJ dysfunction
Identify children suffering from OSA and help them get the necessary care to prevent them becoming one of the 83 million Americans who suffer from TMD
The American Academy of Otolarynology’s guidelines regarding the role of Dentists in identifying patients in need of surgical intervention
Utilizing computer technology to identify airway obstructions and to find the proper jaw alignment that opens the airway
