Brushing for two minutes, two times a day now can save your child from severe tooth pain later.
The mouth is the gateway to a person’s overall health. In concert with The Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives and the Ad Council, we hope to help our most vulnerable community members – children ages 12 and under especially in low-income families – live a healthier life. Our goal is to improve children’s oral health by educating parents and caregivers about the importance of a healthy mouth and motivating them to modify their children’s behaviors through simple, low-cost, preventive strategies.
Among surveyed parents of children ages 12 or younger, only 44% report that their child brushes their teeth twice a day or more. 60% report they do not regularly help their child brush their teeth or check to make sure they’ve done a good job. Meanwhile, dental decay is the single most common chronic disease of childhood, five times more common than asthma, with 16.5 million children suffering from untreated tooth decay. An unhealthy mouth can be associated with obesity, diabetes and even heart disease.
To learn more about oral health and dental disease prevention for your kids, go to this entertaining interactive website 2min2x.org designed for parents and children; i.e., lots of 2-minute videos/cartoons to watch while brushing their teeth (presented in English and Spanish).
